What does it mean ?
'Historical Topics from a By Gone
Perspective'
A 'By Gone
Perspective' comes from a source that is far removed from our
modern times. For instance, a history book about the civil war,
written in 1910, would have a far different perspective than a
modern book.
A modern text would
certainly have the facts; the sequence of
events; the battles; the politics, the causes, the outcomes,
etc. While an 'antiquarian' history book
would have the same set of facts, it also includes insight into the
the 'emotions' of the war; the drama; the
feelings. You'll read about heroism and joy, and sorrow and
pain; it's all part of the
story.
Our works, simple put,
are created from those old antiquarian historical books of the past.
i.e. antiquarian (antique books).
Okay, So, What is an antiquarian book
?
An antiquarian book is simply an old book; an antique
book. They are rare, and out-of-print books that collectors like to
own. The title page at the right is an example of an antiquarian
book that was published in 1906.
The books themselves are usually delicate because of
their age, and are not really suitable for reading. When we convert
a book to an ebook, the contents of the book are presented in total,
and include all of the original text, and photographs/illustrations.
The photographs/illustrations are often presented along with the
associated text, as in the original book, and also presented in a
slide show(s). Often, as in the 'San Francisco Calamity by
Earthquake and Fire", the original content is augmented and enhanced
with additional photographs, and illustrations; commentary; music;
and even some old-time movies.

Why Buy an Antiquarian eBook ?
There are a limited number of antiquarian books that
exist in the world today, and that are also available to the general
public. Many are very hard to find.
And if you are able to buy an old book; say one that
is over a 100 years old, you probably won't sit down and read it for
fear of destroying the book; they just are not sturdy enough to
read. I have several books that are over 200 years old that I only
occassionally peruse; I would destroy them if I were to sit down and
read them.
So,
a big advantage of having an antiquarian book in an ebook format is
that you can, in fact, read the book without damging, or destroying
the book. And the ebook is preseved for many years to come; you'll
never have to worry about the pages fading, or curling, or becoming
damaged, etc.
History Buffs, Students,
Teachers
I am a History Buff; a permanent
Student; I love to read about history.
When I read history
books, I love to study the associated pictures, and illustrations,
and photographs, etc. Our publications primarily include "American
Era" topics, though not necessarily American-only topics. Our
publications make it easy to read through the text, and then jump to
associated picture(s), with captions, and then easily return to the
text. Pictures add alot to the subject, so you'll find that most our
publications contain an amble amount of pictures.
You can
bookmark as many pages as you like, and return at a later time. And,
you can word search the publication, and then jump directly to
desired page; a person doing research on a given subject would find
this a valuable tool. In most cases, the reader can print-out a page
of text, or a picture; a very handy feature for the
researcher.
Okay, so, what would anyone want to read history
from an Antiquarian book ? Why not ? In my opinion, and a big reason
why I like to read them, is that they provide a unique perspective
that is not available in modern, current day, re-written, re-hashed,
and often,politically sanitized, history text.
For
example, in the Civil War Through The Camera, the book does tell the
basic history of the war; the sequence of events, the major battles
(with pictures), etc. But it also talks about honor, and idealism,
and honesty, boldness, and bravery; fighting for a cause (whether a
Union, or Confederate soldier); it's a very dramatic telling of the
story, one that I haven't seen in modern texts, one that you
probably would not see.....
The language, and style,
and the prose, are unique to the time; even some of the language,
and the some words themselves are, strange; it just adds to the
whole experience.
Plus.... they are simply fun to read; I know I cannot
help but smile as I read through an old book, or magazine, and get a
real feel for those times, and those days, long past, that were the
norm of that era.
What is an eBook ?
An ebook, or "electronic Book", is simply an
electronic, or digital version of a book that is formatted to be
viewed and read on a computer screen. Traditionally, most eBooks,
are primarily text, however they often contain pictures, tables,
formula's, etc.
Our eBooks are more than just plain text files that
have been formatted for various types of 'reading software'. Our
ebooks are enhanced with mulitmedia features that make the reading,
and viewing experience more exciting, and pleasurable. For instance,
our ebooks are high quality works that are menu driven,
colorful, soundful, searchable, printable,
